What an alert means

What each part of a Verath alert tells you and what to do next.

An alert means an organisation connected to Verath has checked or used your NIN or BVN. Each alert shows:

  • Who: the institution that ran the check.
  • What: the kind of check, for example identity verification, account opening or a loan application.
  • When: the date and time.
  • Reference: a code the institution can use to find the check.

What to do

  • If you recognise it, for example you just opened an account or applied for a loan, tap This was me. Nothing else happens.
  • If you don't recognise it, tap Not me. See Disputing a check.

An alert on its own does not mean fraud has happened. Many checks are routine, such as your bank re-confirming your details.
