The problem we saw
Nigeria’s identity rails are powerful. Owners are left out of the loop.
NIN and BVN have brought millions of Nigerians into the formal economy. Banks, fintechs, telcos and lenders verify these numbers every day to open accounts and approve loans.
But the owner of the number generally isn’t told when it is checked. When a number leaks, and many have, fraudsters can use it quietly, and victims often find out months later.
Verath exists to close that gap: to make sure the person an identity belongs to hears about its use in real time, and can stop misuse before it causes harm. It is what credit-inquiry alerts and credit freezes are to credit files, built for Nigeria’s identity numbers.
Where we are going
The road ahead
Verath is in development. This is the path we’re building toward; timing depends on partners and regulatory engagement.
Phase 1
Alerts
Enrollment with proof of ownership, alerts from the first connected partners, and one-tap disputes.
Phase 2
Coverage
More verification providers, banks and lenders; USSD; local-language alerts; incident reports.
Phase 3
Control
Identity lock and one-time unlock at the point of account opening, with ecosystem partners.
