Disputes and the identity lock

Disputing a check ("Not me")

What happens when you tap Not me, and what the institution does next.

Tap Not me on any alert you don't recognise.

What happens

  1. Verath opens a dispute with the institution that reported the check, plus any other partner that reported the same lookup.
  2. The institution receives the dispute with its own reference for the check, so its fraud team can find it. They do not receive your contact details from Verath.
  3. You can follow the dispute's status in the app as the institution updates it.

What you should also do

A dispute alerts the institution, but you should protect yourself too. Follow the steps in If your NIN or BVN has been misused.

Can I change my answer?

You can respond to each alert once. If you tapped the wrong option, contact the institution directly, and email us with the alert reference.
